When I see this and this I think about the five-monkeys-in-a-cage-with-a-banana experiment. Most of the human-computer interaction cruft (a must-read article) comes from old technological limitations, which are long gone. Why do we keep making the same mistakes? Because we forgot why we did it in the first place and now we are doing it because that’s the way it’s always been done.

I was disappointed to see the same old interface cruft in the OLPC interface. We should eat the banana already. There are no more cold showers.
